Modeling an Overcurrent Relay Protection and Coordination in a Power System Network Using PSCAD Software
Abstract
In power system network, protection system is an important element that needs to be concerned because it is helping isolated an abnormal condition and interruption to the system. The backup relay need a sufficient amount of time delay to let the primary relay function properly first. For this study, the IEEE std. C37.112 moderately inverse IDMT curve characteristic for are choose to run the simulation using the Power System Computer Aided Design (PSCAD) by applied a various type and location of fault is proposed in this project. The pick-up current setting and time dial setting will help in order to achieve the desire time margin. The time margin will affect the time taken for next relay to operate and without the proper setting can exposing more hazard to equipment. So the increasing in the time margin will increase the time taken for relay to act during interruption.
